Manistee Fishing Report – King Salmon and Steelhead Action Remains Strong

June 7th, 2025

Fishing out of Manistee has been solid over the past few weeks with plenty of silver fish to keep anglers busy. Lake Michigan conditions have been providing good opportunities for both King Salmon and Steelhead, with fish being found throughout the water column.

King Salmon Report

King Salmon fishing has been productive, with plenty of fish holding on the shelf in 90–120 feet of water to start the morning. The best areas have been straight out from Manistee and 2–3 miles south.

Water temperatures are currently very consistent from top to bottom, which has the fish spread throughout the water column. We have been catching Kings anywhere from 10–120 feet down using a variety of presentations, including:

  • Downriggers
  • Divers
  • Lead core
  • Copper and weighted steel

Spoons and flasher/fly combinations have been the biggest number producers. The larger Kings have been coming from deeper water (200+ feet) while targeting them with meat rigs and wire divers.

Steelhead Report

Steelhead have been showing up in deeper water, with fish being found in 200–350 feet of water. Clean spoons and flasher/fly combinations worked best, with most of the action coming in the top 50 feet of the water column. These chrome Steelhead have been a great addition to the catch.

Trip Results

We finished the day 10 for 12 with a great mix of salmon and Steelhead action.

Captain’s Tip

Paying close attention to speed and direction is key to success on Lake Michigan. Some days, the slightest adjustments on the throttle can make the difference between a few bites and a busy day. Keep experimenting until you find what the fish want.

The fish are biting and the season is underway. If you’re looking to get out on Lake Michigan and experience Manistee salmon fishing, give Copperhead Sportfishing Charters a call. We’d love to have you aboard.
